For the fourth consecutive year the Dragons chalked up nine games for the year. After an ordinary 2006, the club bounced back in emphatic fashion to win eight games, including the all-important Asian Champs Grand Final.

The year was also notable for its dazzling array of social events and an injection of new members that added to what was already one of the most sociable sporting clubs in the region.

The year started with a match under lights at the spectacular Happy Valley racecourse interior against the visiting Western Whalers from Perth. The Dragons had too many avenues to goal and ran out convincing winners.

In May, the team returned to the site of its previous Asian Champs success (2004), where it took on the Malaysia Warriors. Although strong on paper, the small Dragons squad struggled in the oppressive heat, eventually wilting to a 47 point defeat. There was little to indicate just what sort of impact the Dragons would have on Asian footy's season 2007.

A few weeks later, the Dragons confronted a well-honed Jakarta outfit that was at the end of an ambitious 10-day tour of China and Japan. Despite the Dragons formidable record at home and the tendency for touring sides to struggle on the road in general, the Bintangs came within a couple of kicks of stealing victory. But the Dragons clung on for a nine point win and their unbeaten record at home harking back to 1996 was safe. And the juggernaut was now in motion.

With plenty of training, a lot of midweek running but not a lot of actual game time under the belt, the Dragons in July landed a huge squad in Bangkok for the Asian Championships. Most bookmakers had the unheralded Dragons at about sixth in the line of betting of the ten teams taking part. Game one could scarcely have been more crucial, with the Dragons taking on two-time defending champs, Singapore. But it was the goalless Wombats that were left reeling in shock after a ruthless and fired-up Dragons outfit slammed them to the tune of 41 points – one of the biggest margins of the entire carnival. Workman-like wins followed over Malaysia and Japan before a confrontation against highly-fancied competition new-comers, the UAE Heat. Both sides were until then undefeated but it was the Dragons who emerged from the bruising encounter with the nine-point win and a place in the Grand Final alongside the Bali Geckos.

The Grand Final was played at a dazzling standard, with both sides moving the ball with finesse and the physicality of the clash lifting another notch. Evenly matched throughout, the Dragons and Geckos finished the game tied at 5.4-34. A Bali player had taken a free kick on the boundary line after the final siren with the Dragons one point ahead. He kicked a point, to send the game into extra time. The Dragons then kicked a goal into the wind and held on to win by eight points after the change of ends to set into motion raucous celebrations and consign Bali to their third consecutive runners-up medal. The Hong Kong Dragons had created history to go from a wooden spoon in 2006 to Premiers in 2007.

The playing season ended with a hugely entertaining trip to Ho Chi Minh, where the Dragons fought out a decent win over the Vietnam Swans. The Swans, appropriately, handled the wet conditions well, going in at half time just nine points down after torrential downpour. But the Dragons took control in the second half to run out winners by 67 points.

Off the field, the club moved from strength to strength, benefiting from generous sponsorship, an influx of new members of all ability levels and a diverse array of social activities. Highlights included (but were certainly not limited to) Ladies Night in Soho, the glittering Beach Party on September 15, an AFL Grand Final gala event that attracted about 400 people, an intra-club squash competition and the end-of-season awards night in Wan Chai.
